WE CALL this our ‘Pocket & Planet’ purpose, and our journey has only just begun.

To commence the journey, we reviewed our values, focusing on doing more with less and defining our Pocket & Planet purpose. Building on from that, we are proud to now be certified as Carbon Neutral by Climate Active, recognising our strategy to reduce emissions across a number of major sources, predominantly energy consumption, transport and logistics, and offsetting our limited remaining emissions. We have also published our Ethical Banking Policy, which states the industries and activities we will not directly lend to, as well as our Ethical Investment Policy, which states those activities we will not support through our investments.

These solid foundations set us up to bring a range of ‘Green’ products to the market. Our Green Plus Home Loan is designed for energy-efficient homes or rebuilds with a certified 7-star NatHERS rating, whereas our standard Green Home Loan package is accessible for homes that meet a range of environmentally friendly requirements. Both variable rate Green Home Loans offer the same flexibility and benefits as our Premium Package Home Loan; however, they are offered at a discounted rate for the life of the loan and 100 per cent offset account with our Visa Eco Debit Card.

Gateway was proud to be the first bank in Australia to launch an Eco Debit Card. Made from plant-based material and containing no PVC, our new Visa Eco Debit Card is gentle on the planet. Manufacturing our eco-card uses 65 per cent less energy than a conventional plastic card and produces 68 per cent fewer greenhouse gases while containing no toxins. The card will also degrade up to 20 times faster than a traditional PVC card and will not release any toxins into the environment. To round out our green banking proposition, we offer our lowest- rate personal loan to help fund the purchase and installation of environmental upgrades. The Gateway Eco Personal Loan is available for the purchase and installation of a range of features to help improve the efficiency of homes and reduce their impact on the environment.
