Smartline has launched a new initiative that calls on brokers and the general public to celebrate “local heroes”, who could take home $5,000.

Smartline Personal Mortgage Advisers, part of the REA Group, has announced the launch of a celebration of Australia’s “local heroes”, encouraging brokers and consumers to nominate neighbours and locals who have gone above and beyond in the face of adversity.

The promotion includes a $25,000 prize pool, with five of the nominated local heroes set to take home $5,000 each.

Those wishing to nominate a local hero can do so on the Smartline website and have until the end of July to submit their nomination.

Smartline CEO Sam Boer said 2020 has been a challenging year for so many across the nation, and those who have gone out of their way to assist others deserve recognition.

“I don’t think any of us foresaw what was coming our way this year – our community has battled continuous drought, a catastrophic bushfire season and the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic,” Mr Boer said.

“We recognise things have been tough, and we’d like to celebrate the local heroes who have sacrificed so much to put others ahead of themselves. Giving back is a big part of the culture of our network of 400 Smartline Advisers.

“Whether it’s your neighbour who is a local volunteer firey, your sister who’s an emergency nurse or your dad who delivers meals to vulnerable people – we have so many unsung heroes in our community and everyone at Smartline is looking forward to recognising their selfless efforts.”

The group added that brokers and their businesses are “very much a part of their local communities”, and called on brokers to nominate “heroes” in their local area.
