In yet another blow to the struggling US housing market, new home sales fell to their lowest in 12 years in December 2007.

Data from the US Department of Commerce revealed yesterday that sales of new family homes recorded a seasonally-adjusted 604,000 in the final month of the year, a 4.7 per cent fall from sales in November.

The December figures was also 40.7 per cent below the 1,019,000 estimate of December 2006.
