Do you really need that new piece of tech?

One technology vendor has offered some unusual advice for brokers: new technology is not always the answer.

Stargate Technologies' chief executive Brett Spencer said many brokers make the mistake of not learning about the full capability and potential of their hardware and software.

“My advice to brokers is don’t jump straight into thinking, ‘I’ve got to buy something new’,” he told The Adviser.

Mr Spencer said it would be better if brokers studied their software and hardware for an hour per day over the next three or four weeks. They might be surprised to learn that their existing technology can already do what they thought could only be done with new products, he said.

Upgrades should only be done when you properly understand your existing systems and have identified a superior alternative, he added.

Mr Spencer said there were two main reasons why brokers did not understand their technology: either they were time-poor or they were set in their ways.

He told The Adviser that brokers who maximised their Stargate systems had smaller workloads and more time to make sales than those who didn’t.

Mr Spencer has spoken at the first four legs of the Better Business Summit and will also appear at the final leg in Perth on March 20. Click here to register.
