From selling half the world’s sandalwood throughout Asia to buying a crane business and finally finding that "real job" in finance – it’s been an unconventional road, but every part of the journey led here.
How did you start down this career path?
I graduated in 2010 with a Bachelor of Commerce majoring in Finance. At the time, I had no intention of using it immediately — I figured that piece of paper would come in handy one day. It just took 12 years.
From 2014-2021, I moved between China, Taiwan, Pacific Islands and Indonesia managing the sales and distribution of half the world’s sandalwood supply across Asia with a phone in one hand and rice wine in the other. I was regularly flying between Guangzhou, Xiamen, Jakarta and the Pacific Islands while building supply chains, negotiating trade deals, and learning how to navigate some of the world’s most unstructured business environments – and I loved it!
Eventually, the world changed with COVID, a distribution contract was not renewed, I met the women of my dreams and priorities quickly shifted. I returned to Perth and decided it was time to build something where I want to be long-term and find that “real job.” I started a small crane hire business with my brother purchasing distressed assets from over East, refurbishing them and occupying a small space in the WA crane market. This gave me insight into the day-to-day challenges of SME ownership in Australia. From here, it became clear how difficult it was for business owners to secure lending for commercial or residential purposes. That gap in the market — and a desire to solve it — is what pulled me into mortgage and commercial broking. On paper the least experienced 34 year old broker was born…
What inspires you in your role/industry? Why?
Meeting people and solving problems. It’s that simple.
I’m energised by conversations with business owners, investors, and young professionals who are trying to get ahead — whether it's buying their next property, restructuring debt, or scaling their operations. Every loan is a different puzzle, and often what excites me most is that the real solution has nothing to do with rate.
Helping someone understand what’s possible — and then watching them go and do it — is what drives me every day.
What's your approach to customer service that separates you from the rest?
The truth is, placing a vanilla loan for a PAYG first home buyer isn’t hard — a rate comparison site could almost do the job. But at Luxe Finance, the majority of our clients are business owners or multi-property investors, and those scenarios require experience, foresight, and an understanding of how structures impact long-term goals.
Our approach is hands-on, strategic, and far beyond “just” broking. We focus on structuring deals to maximise borrowing power, preserve requested tax outcomes, and align with our clients’ commercial ambitions.
What really sets us apart, though, is our network. We actively connect clients to the right accountants, valuers, conveyancers, HR professionals, and trade consultants to help them scale. Many of our clients aren’t just financing one property — they’re building a business or legacy, and we work to support that bigger picture.
How do you innovate and stay ahead of industry trends?
We deliberately sit outside the franchise model to stay agile and open-minded. Being independent gives us freedom to work with whoever’s best suited to our clients, not just whoever’s on the panel.
We also co-locate in a collaborative office with a mining engineering firm, a global trade consultancy business. That ecosystem constantly fuels new ideas, perspectives, and partnerships.
Beyond that, we host closed door networking events for our clients and referral partners. These aren’t sales pitches — they’re spaces for people to connect and learn from each other. That open flow of conversation keeps us informed about what our clients and their industries are facing, which in turn shapes how we evolve our offering.
What is the toughest challenge you've faced in your role? How did you overcome it?
The biggest hurdle at the start was simply learning how to write a loan. Having run multiple businesses before, I understood the client side well, but mastering the application process, policy interpretation, and compliance requirements was a whole new world.
I tackled that through abstract and problem solving and surrounding myself with exceptional people — a small group of highly engaged BDMs, great support from Nicole Vladdich (Mortgage Choice), and a few generous private banking contacts who believed in the way we do things.
I also leaned heavily on other brokers who had walked the road before. The broker community — when you find the right people — is surprisingly supportive, and I’ve been grateful for that guidance.
What are some of your goals for the next 5 years?
- Help more young professionals secure their first home – We want to be the go-to broker for first-time buyers in our network, offering guidance, education, and tailored lending solutions that set them up for long-term success. https://luxefinance.
com.au/first-home-buyers/ - Buy second homes with our network of young professionals – As our clients progress, we want to keep walking the journey with them — whether it’s their second property, investment purchases, or a move into commercial assets. Relationships are at the core of our growth.
- Double down on commercial and business lending – There’s a significant gap in the market for brokers who can confidently structure finance for SMEs. Luxe Finance is focused on bridging that gap through practical experience, cross-industry understanding, and strategic partnerships.
- Expand our internal team – We plan to bring on two additional admin and broker support roles. This expansion isn’t about growth for growth’s sake — it’s to improve our ability to provide proactive, strategic support to our clients and referral partners.
- Grow our accountant referral base – We see major potential in partnering with accounting firms that don’t have in-house brokers, especially those serving SME clients and high-income professionals. These partnerships allow us to offer highly integrated, finance-led strategies tailored to each client’s needs.
- And most importantly: stay boutique, nimble, and client-focused – Luxe Finance has been built on the principle of doing meaningful work, not just volume. Our goal is to grow capabilities, not just headcount, and to continue offering personalised service that makes a genuine difference.
