Specialist lending ... the Pepper way

by Lee Prior11 minute read

Pepper’s national sales manager of mortgage broker distribution channels, Lee Prior, breaks down what brokers can expect from the specialist lender this year.

Staying ahead of the curve

At Pepper, our value proposition remains firmly entrenched in providing industry-leading service standards including same day turnaround, so we need to ensure that those standards are never questioned, hence why our team is growing and will continue to grow.

Strong BDM support

With 19 full-time BDMs on the road, Pepper is proud to provide strong local support in every state. Eight of the BDMs have been appointed in the last six months – another testament to Pepper’s commitment to providing greater support.

Dedicated scenarios team

As much as our BDM support team is instrumental in driving the Pepper message, our scenarios team (made up of seven employees) is by far the best in the industry. It not only frees time up for BDMs to be out on the road and proactively educating, but also provides a contact point for our brokers to get decisions quickly and accurately that they can rely on.

Education for all

Pepper has a full online learning platform available to brokers and it’s very comprehensive. Our training program is made up of a series of short online videos and downloadable content designed to provide practical tips to assist with improving client processes. Therefore, a broker can choose to spend five minutes or half an hour, depending on their time constraints.

With a range of content from marketing to improving sales processes, and of course our flagship module on how to position a specialist loan, I guarantee that there will be significant learnings for brokers who have been in the industry for one day or 10-plus years.

However, education for us doesn’t just stop with the broker. We’re also working on a variety of new sales support tools that the broker can use with the consumer, whether it be business planning, running your business [or] social media – all sorts of things that are not just specifically targeted to brokers.

The Insights Roadshow

Pepper’s Insights Roadshow this year will be called ‘The Year of Conversion’, and we’ll be talking a lot about how brokers can increase their conversion rates.

There are a lot of businesses out there that are heavily investing in buying leads, so we just want to make sure that they’re capitalising on that.

We’re not asking them to change their business, we’re not asking them to go and source new leads – we just want to help them improve conversion of the leads that they may have overlooked or that have been declined.

From Pepper’s perspective, it’s an opportunity to give back to brokers – our partners – by providing access to invaluable insights.

Special offers

We’ve got great offers in the market at the moment. For example, in our near-prime and specialist space, we’ve reduced the upfront fees by over $1,800, which is a significant customer saving.
