The Word: Business growth

We asked five brokers from around Australia what they’re doing to grow their business

Valuing referrals

I am in regular contact with past clients to see how they are going and also to ask them to refer any of their friends and family who will benefit from our services. I also work closely with local sporting clubs and ensure I give back to these clubs with every settlement. I am always reinventing my business by changing our website, marketing and social media. I work closely with my referral partners to ensure I am top of mind when they are speaking to their clients.

Mining your book

We send birthday cards, loan anniversary cards, a newsletter, and make an annual phone call. The referrals we receive from clients have increased dramatically and existing clients have come to us for further lending or updated their financial position. We have also started to look for greater opportunities online, with web optimisation and relevant and targeted social media content becoming an even bigger point of difference and target for our business.

Find a niche

The GFC made us look closely at our target market, which resulted in ourname changing to Tradies Finance. We have since been looking at ways to better connect with tradies. Over the last 12 months, we have been developing Tradies Services Group to engage tradies through different financial services. We are now in the process of establishing some significant alliance partners that deal with tradies from industries outside of financial services.

Diversified business

Additions like general insurance and protection insurance give our customers a greater range of products to choose from, satisfying more of their needs and, in return, growing the wealth of our business. We also pride ourselves on the service level we provide, with annual reviews, birthday cards and newsletters keeping us in contact with our clients and their needs, and increasing our repeat and referral business.

Michelle Goody, Easy Loans

Constantly networking

We always make sure our staff are accredited, well trained and up-to-date in all aspects of mortgage and finance. We are constantly networking with accountants, solicitors and real estate agents, and use all types of social media to connect with existing and potential clients. We also keep clients in the loop about the progress of their files, and our website is always up-to-date with the latest information about our company and the products and services we offer.
