Better Business Awards 2021: The Winners

Between May and July, The Adviser toured the country for the Better Business Summit and Better Business Awards roadshow, partnered by NAB. We showcase the winners of the Better Business Awards 2021 that have been announced so far – the outstanding brokers, BDMs and support staff that are raising the bar for the broking industry

After a long and hard 12 months, The Adviser’s eighth annual Better Business Summit and Better Business Awards, run in partnership with NAB, travelled to four states over May and July.

It was a whirlwind roadshow, and The Adviser team was thrilled to be able to work with our partners to bring together and unite brokers in the different states and deliver networking, insights and support to so many who had been separated for so long (even if we couldn’t always be there in person!).

While the Sydney event is yet to take place (being delayed by the latest round of lockdowns), the 2021 event has been an amazing opportunity to connect and network with so many, after so long.

Manifesting the theme of the 2021 event, ‘Better Connected’, in total nearly 3,000 guests attended Better Business 2021 to catch up with peers, engage in deep learnings, and connect with one another at the summit, and recognise and celebrate the achievements in the field after a hard year, at the awards.

Better Business Summit

Over the course of the day conference, brokers heard inspiring stories of resilience and fortitude – with keynote speakers Saroo Brierley telling his incredible and moving story of reconnecting with his biological family in India (on which the movie Lion is based), and Thankyou founder Daniel Flynn demonstrating how perseverance and passion can effect change and turn the business-as-usual model on its head.

As well as providing inspirational and thought-leadership content, the summit was packed with professional development content.

The Adviser and Momentum Intelligence unpacked the findings of the 2021 Consumer Access to Mortgages survey (see page 34 for more). Following the aftermath of COVID, the report explored the voices of over a thousand Australian borrowers to reveal the latest consumer sentiments towards both the third-party and proprietary channels – including the impact of turnaround times on customer satisfaction.

Stewart Bell, business coach and founder of Audere Coaching & Consulting, provided quickfire tips on what brokers can do to drive efficiencies under time pressures and master their workflow, while broker referral partners (real estate agents, buyer’s agents and accountants) unpacked the key trends they’ve been seeing in the home buying journey, and what they most want from their brokers to maximise strategic partnerships.

Local elite brokers also uncovered how they got to where they are now, their tips for success and what they think of the current market. If you missed them, you can tune in to some of these sessions via the Elite Broker podcast, recorded live at the event.

Given the importance and connection between one’s own wellness and business performance, the Better Business Summit 2021 heard from performance and wellness coaches to unveil techniques that can help brokers be at the top of their game. Whether it was working on wellbeing so that brokers can ensure they can outperform competition, engaging their intuition to better connect with clients and staff, or detoxing their day for improved work/life balance and increased professional performance, there was something for everyone.

In the evening, the top brokers, business development managers and loan administrators from across the two states were celebrated for their hard work and dedication to supporting their clients during the COVID-19 pandemic.

In the following pages, we outline the winners of the Better Business Awards 2021 (excluding NSW, yet to take place):
