After unveiling the Top 25 Brokerages ranking 2024, we wanted to know what brokers think makes a brokerage successful. Here's what they had to say...
A smooth client journey
A brokerage that has its process seamless for the customer and its finances, with the right people with the right skill set in order to deliver the best outcomes for clients and finances, results in a really good culture or given individuals who are very good at what they do.
I would also say that adding value every step of the way for your client will make you successful. What that means is if you’re doing everything you possibly can for that customer to make sure their finance experience is an easier process, compared to putting more ownership on them.
You won’t be as successful as trying to add as much value in every step in the finance journey as possible.

Clear processes
I would say clearly defined systems and processes. Whether that means lower processing systems, HR systems, or systems when you’re talking to a client for digital interviews, everything needs to be systemised and it needs to be documented. It all needs to be clear. That way, everyone can access what they need at any time.
I also think one of the most important things when running a brokerage is that you need to know what you want as a leader and to make sure your team knows what you want.
Another point I want to add is that while the business can sometimes get a little frustrating, it’s always important to make sure you’re having fun!

Good communication
Communication with your clients is key. You need to make sure that you’re in regular contact with your clients to ensure you’re always there for them when things start to get tough.
That also means making sure you’re available for your client when you can be. It’s important that when people want to talk to you, you’ve got the time set aside for them.

Strong leadership and constant training
Leaders who make themselves available and encourage questions from staff and clients get the best from their staff and create great alliances with clients.
Help for every client – do everything you can for any client who crosses your path. Even with clients we can’t help, we provide free advice and refer on.
Staff morale – encouraging staff to help each other is great for team strengthening. Flexible work hours and the ability to work from home are also great for holding on to staff.
Constant training for support staff – encourage staff to continue learning and become more skilled with the opportunity to be promoted, etc. Paying for courses and study leave are greatly appreciated by staff eager to learn and grow.
Seek regular feedback from staff on how to improve systems and procedures.
Under promise, over deliver to referrers, clients, and staff.
