Developing the industry’s best brokers

Promoted by LMG6 minute read

Through comprehensive and complimentary online and face-to-face training and development, LMG is empowering business owners, Brokers, Credit Analysts, Client Support Managers and Operations Managers with the knowledge and skills to be their best.

LMG’s training and development program strengthens and protects businesses for success in modern broking.

From the industry’s biggest professional development conference, achieving Cert IV through the innovative Brokerversity or mentorship via its professional communities, LMG offers a dynamic training environment for business owners, loan writers and administration superstars to become better.

From planning to productivity, compliance to client support, LMG has made its training and development program engaging and accessible for everyone, providing a pathway to brilliance and smarter businesses.

Brokerversity

LMG’s ‘Brokerversity’ virtual campus is an industry innovation and the centrepiece of its education program. It prepares students - the support staff and brokers of tomorrow - to manage the end-to-end loan process with leading knowledge, best-practice compliance and Kaizen-backed efficiencies.

“Productivity for brokers comes down to having highly-trained and educated support staff behind them,” said LMG Group Executive of Residential Andrea McNaughton.

“But the recurring problem brokers and business owners have is getting support staff up-to-speed with file-handling efficiencies to drive high-quality submissions, comprehension and insights of the lending process and best-practice compliance so they can make a genuine contribution to the growth of the business from day one.

“Brokerversity is the best response for business owners to this challenge.”

Brokerversity offers prospective customer service specialists an Undergraduate program covering the A-Z of lending, the DNA of a brokerage and how to get ‘job-ready’.

The Graduate program ensures students are ready for the practicalities of real-life brokerages - from converting a lead into a client and processing a one-touch approval through to settlement and client retention.

Brokerversity is home to the industry’s most comprehensive Learning and Development Resource Library. The literature supports learning at participants’ own pace and allows them to apply their newfound knowledge to their course and brokerage.

The platform also enables two-way conversation with other LMG peers to workshop scenarios ahead of lodgement - just another example of LMG’s communities collaborating together.

‘Ask a Lender’ opens up two-way conversations between lenders and participants around lodgement, adding greater clarity for brokers and better outcomes for clients.

LMG is continually keeping abreast of new content and literature for Brokerversity to help brokers. An elective course in asset finance and commercial finance was recently added to support brokers and brokerages to diversify their business and client relationships, building smarter businesses.

Daily online training

LMG’s daily ‘Thrives’ - lunchtime educational webinars - were a response to Covid-lockdowns, but have been retained as a central part of its ‘learning-on-demand’ tools.

Hosted by experts from LMG’s different business units, Thrives are deep dives into everything from new lenders to MyCRM tools, regulatory obligations and more.

Examples of topics covered in thrive sessions range from business improvement insights such as “Building your referral network”, “What you need in your toolkit as a broker to diversify your book”, “Finding talent to suit your business” through to cyber security and lender updates and insights on how to leverage the full suite of support and platforms available with LMG

Specialist education weeks

In addition to the skills and knowledge that broker businesses need to succeed every day, LMG is also looking for education and training programs that provide the network with a point of difference to clients.

For instance, this week LMG hosted Self-Employed Week, where they heard insights from experts and lenders on preparing applications for clients that run their own businesses and mining their self-employed databases for asset and commercial finance discussions.

McNaughton said: “Self-employed clients are a growing market. We want our brokers to be best placed to deliver them solutions. Education from experts on how to read business financials properly, and identifying opportunities for clients within the figures, is just one way we’re upskilling brokers.”

11,167 users in the LMG network registered for the week's online training sessions, and over 600 registered for the state-based face-to-face workshops.

Professional Development Days

Two professional development days each year (one for regional businesses) help brokers stay ahead of emerging trends and revisit processes and knowledge essential to success.

As well as two PD Days focusing on residential finance, LMG offers a specialist asset finance and commercial finance training day, supporting diversification for stronger and smarter businesses.

The industry’s biggest conference

With the consolidation of aggregators PLAN, Choice, FAST, Loan Market and BYOB, LMG’s network of 6000 brokers is invited to the industry’s biggest conference annually. The audience hears from inspiring leaders in business, with break-out sessions that appeal to every role, ambition and challenge in modern broking.

The professional development sessions are accompanied by the industry’s biggest awards ceremony, celebrating the top performers and innovators across the LMG Family.

State-based workshops for learning and connections

LMG’s State Directors schedule eight state-based workshops a year showcasing the industry’s best curriculum - providing tactics to get the most out of MyCRM’s productivity features, forging and strengthening referral partnerships and automated marketing initiatives to win and retain more clients.

As well as direct learning, the workshops are a forum for business owners to connect, sharing ideas and valuable business insights.

Kaizen perspectives for greater efficiencies

All Broker Success Team members are Yellow Belt-certified in Kaizen and Lean Six Sigma. They utilise the principles of continuous improvement to help businesses strip out inefficient processes and channel the freed-up time into productive activities and an improved customer experience.

“We believe in the benefits of Kaizen for businesses - transforming their processes and making them smarter,” said McNaughton. “At LMG, having our Broker Success Teams adopting Kaizen themselves means our training is more targeted, streamlined and effective.”

Dedicated compliance and cyber security coaches

Ten Compliance Consultants keep LMG brokers around Australia safe in their file handling and client management processes by:

  • assessing audits and addressing process issues at a granular level before they become reportable;
  • monitoring real-time compliance reporting to ensure brokers follow the Group’s industry-recognised processing blueprint;
  • outlining how compliance directly benefits productivity and the customer experience.

They also provide brokers with knowledge and processes to protect their businesses against cyber security threats - one of the biggest challenges for businesses in the digital economy.

Growing together in like-minded communities

LMG has a community for everyone:

  • Leading Ladies - the industry’s pre-eminent group for females in broking; Since it began in 2017, this community has helped many women form lifelong connections and break-down barriers to success.
  • Young Business Owners (YBO) connects business owners under 35 hungry to take their businesses to the next level. It's a community of like-minded entrepreneurs who come together on a regular basis to challenge the status quo, discuss common challenges and learn from seasoned operators.
