Harness the power of apps to boost your business

One successful regional broker has created an iPhone app to help give her business an edge and create ‘stickier’ clients.

As a successful mortgage and finance broker based in NSW Southern Highlands, Ms Wilson says her regional location is an “extremely positive thing” as she is able to make a name for herself faster than if she were working in the city.

However, speaking to The Adviser, she pointed out that regional broking is an “attractive” area for other businesses to compete, and thus it is important to “try and stay one step ahead in a regional location, stay well-noted and well-connected”.

To keep her clients engaged, Ms Wilson’s company Wilson Financial released the iPhone app Wilson Financial Pocket Wizard last year.

“It’s just like a little value-add; if you’re in someone’s pocket at any time, you can be front of mind,” Ms Wilson explained.

“We send push notifications out and it’s just another touchpoint to say ‘Hey, we’re here, we’re just doing this that’s a bit different, or the interest rate has just gone down’.”

According to Ms Wilson, the app has been downloaded over 300 times and has helped her create ‘stickier’ clients who turn to her business in times of need for financial guidance.

“They turn to us when they buy a car, they turn to us when they renovate their kitchen, they turn to us when they’re worried about their income.

“They don’t need to go to all these different people for different things, they don’t need to just get their home loan here and never come back. They know that in their minds we’re starting to cement as the go-to people; at least that’s the aim,” she said.

“I think that [through] newsletters and social media and having an app and being in front of people, it’s your overall branding and presence. If you’re at the front of their mind every month, they don’t forget about you.”
