With the world of broking being busy as ever, it’s crucial that brokers ensure they can deal with the stress of a constant barrage of phone calls, emails, and meetings. As heard on the Elite Broker podcast, we find out what brokers do to de-stress and unwind
A mindset coach
Good question! I have a peak performance and mindset coach. He’s located in the US and I’m coached by him weekly. We have a set plan as to what I do each week as far as making sure that I do what I can to de-stress; this includes things like exercise and meditation.

Family time
For me, it’s probably just spending time with the family. I’ve got three kids and two dogs and it’s great to take the dogs out for a walk, go for a ride with the kids, and get them out of the house. I’d say that’s my main way to de-stress and unwind; life is full-on when you have three kids and running your own business. It’s always nice to get a bit of downtime.

Coaching footy
I started coaching footy after my daughter stopped playing netball. I was a netballer forever; it was my thing! But when I started coaching footy, I found that I loved it more.
I took a year off coaching my son’s team when he was an under 11, then I got a call from some of the other mums that their girls wanted to start playing footy and when they asked me to coach, I couldn’t turn down that offer.
It turned to be something I loved more than just coaching my own kids because those other kids were so into it!
I don’t do much else to unwind, although I do like to curate some playlists on my Spotify account to keep me chill. Otherwise I’m just “mum-ing” it up! I’m just racing around being a mum, where the kid’s needs come first and if we have a cool Spotify playlist for a trip, then that’s cool, too!

Golf and basketball
I’ve definitely got too many hobbies! I enjoy golfing and playing basketball. My son’s turned 15 now and he’s really getting into surfing so we’ll do that together as well.
I’m also an avid reader, I really enjoy sitting back and reading sometimes. I like doing physical exercise, too, because that’s something that de-stresses me, I don’t feel that I’m as anxious when I get out and do something physically.
The hours can be awkward, so it becomes a case of if you have the opportunity to get a bit of downtime and do something for yourself, just go out and do it.
