CPI rises 1.3 per cent

The headline consumer price index (CPI) rose 1.3 per cent in the March quarter, ABS figures revealed today.

The quarter’s increase brings the annual rate of inflation to 4.2 per cent – significantly outside the Reserve Bank’s target of two to three per cent.

Housing, fuel and pharmaceuticals were all significant contributors to the CPI result.
