Senior executives from the nation’s broking and aggregation groups went head to head in front of a respected panel of judges yesterday, in a bid to show why they should receive top honours at this year’s Australian Broking Awards.

Partnered by the Commonwealth Bank, the Australian Broking Awards business luncheon, hosted by game show legend Larry Emdur, will be held at the Overseas Passenger Terminal in Sydney on July 27.

As part of the robust assessment process, finalists from several of the complex corporate categories were required to attend a panel interview – to ensure a complete and thorough assessment that reflects the richness and diversity of certain business models

VOW Financial’s chief executive Tim Brown, Connective’s principal Mark Haron, FAST’s acting chief executive David O’Toole, Choice Aggregation Service's Stephen Moore, PLAN Australia's Trevor Scott and AFG's Chris Slater battled it out for the coveted Aggregator of the Year Award.

Also participating in the panel interviews were the heads of franchise and non-franchise brokerage groups, including Century 21 Home Loans, Aussie, Mortgage Choice, Loan Market and Oxygen.

The panel of judges was made up of senior representatives across various business backgrounds and featured; Dr Fariborz Moshirian, Professor of Finance and the Director of the Institute of Global Finance in the Australian School of Business at the University of New South Wales, Australian Direct Marketing Association’s chief executive Jodie Sangster and RFi Australian research director Alex Boorman.

Jim Hall publisher of The Adviser, said this year’s event sets a new benchmark for the third party distribution channel and highlights exactly what it takes to be successful.

“Despite the relatively weak performance of most property markets, the leading brokers and brokerage groups continue to grow and this is reflected in the figures that we are seeing from participants in our Awards,” Mr Hall said.

“This year has been very challenging and all finalists should be considered as a true representation of what it takes to be successful in today’s market.”

Mr Hall thanked all attendees and judges involved in what is set to be a highly contested awards.
