The former Resimac executive has returned to the broking industry to lead distribution at Rate Money after stepping away to pursue performance coaching.
Chris Paterson has returned to Australia’s lending industry as non-bank lender Rate Money’s head of sales and distribution, following his departure from Resimac in April 2025.
The appointment brings the experienced distribution executive back into lender leadership after he left the sector to build performance consultancy Run Rocket Run alongside Rodney Cottam.
Paterson will oversee efforts to improve sales capability, deepen relationships across Rate Money’s franchise and referral networks, and identify growth opportunities as the business pursues expansion.
His remit includes helping franchisees and referrers develop their businesses, connecting the leadership appointment with the lender’s ambitions to broaden access to finance for self-employed Australians.
Rate Money CEO Ryan Gair said Paterson combined commercial expertise with the ability to develop people and maintain industry relationships.
“Chris brings an outstanding combination of industry experience, commercial capability and a genuine focus on people. His track record in building high-performing teams and developing strong industry relationships makes him an excellent addition to our leadership team,” Gair said.
Gair also linked the appointment to Rate Money’s strategy of supporting its distribution network while addressing self-employed borrowers’ financing needs.
“Our ambition is to keep challenging the market and make it easier for self-employed Australians to access the finance they need,” he said.
“Achieving that means continuing to strengthen our distribution network, giving our people the tools and support to succeed, and ensuring our network have compelling solutions for their clients.
“Chris will be instrumental in building the capability of our sales team, creating new opportunities across our distribution channels and helping our franchisees and referrers grow their businesses.”
A return to the broking industry after performance coaching
Paterson brings more than 18 years of financial services experience across non-bank sales, operations, product, distribution, and marketing.
He spent eight and a half years at Resimac, including as general manager, distribution and marketing, leading national initiatives across both functions.
Previously, he held senior positions during 10 years at Homeloans before its 2016 merger with Resimac.
A former Wests Tigers NRL player, Paterson subsequently turned to performance coaching.
His April 2025 move saw him become Run Rocket Run’s general manager, working alongside Cottam, a former Resimac regional sales manager.
Paterson described the appointment as an opportunity to contribute to Rate Money’s next stage of development.
“I’m excited to be joining Rate Money at such an important time for the business,” Paterson said.
He added that the lender’s approach to specialist borrowers provided a key foundation for expanding the business.
“Rate Money has built a strong position in the market by understanding the needs of self-employed borrowers and taking a different approach to lending,” he said.
“I’m looking forward to working with the team and our partners to build on that foundation, create new opportunities and help more clients achieve their goals.”
His arrival follows product initiatives at Rate Money targeting borrowers whose income or business structures can fall outside traditional lending criteria.
In October, Rate Money announced Evolve Easy Doc promotional rates from 6.99 per cent p.a., responding to the changing interest rate environment.
The promotional offer runs until 1 December, covering owner-occupied principal and interest loans up to 80 per cent loan-to-value ratio (LVR), with a comparison rate of 7.36 per cent p.a.
Its dollar-for-dollar refinance offering also accommodates individual and company borrowers, with loans up to $2.5 million and 80 per cent LVR, extending options for self-employed customers seeking refinancing.
