Liberty extends partnership with Melbourne Renegades

7 minute read

The non-bank lender has confirmed its partnership with the cricket team will continue, making Liberty the Melbourne Renegades’ longest-serving partner.

Liberty is set to continue its association with the Melbourne Renegades for the upcoming Big Bash season, serving once again as the cricket team’s principal partner.

The non-bank lender is now the Renegades’ longest-serving partner, having begun its association with the cricket team in 2019.

As part of the partnership, the Liberty logo will feature prominently on the new jerseys of both the women’s (WBBL|11) and men’s (BBL|15) Big Bash League teams.

David Smith, Liberty’s chief distribution officer, said the non-bank lender is excited to extend the partnership for the 2025–26 season.

“We have been incredibly proud to support the Renegades as their longest-serving partner and watch them go from strength to strength over the last six years,” he said.

“This has been a fantastic partnership, as Liberty’s free-thinking approach to lending perfectly aligns with the bold and innovative spirit of the ’Gades.

“We’re thrilled to continue as Principal Partner of such a diverse and inclusive club and look forward to the excitement of the upcoming WBBL|11 and BBL|15 seasons.”

James Rosengarten, Melbourne Renegades general manager, said the partnership has grown across both the men’s and women’s programs.

“Liberty has been an outstanding supporter of our club for several years now, and we’re thrilled to continue working with them. Their commitment to both our men’s and women’s programs has played a big role in our journey,” he said.

“Liberty has always believed in what the Renegades stand for, and we were thrilled to share last year’s WBBL championship with them.

“This season is another chance for us to build on that partnership and connect Liberty with our members and fans in new and exciting ways.”

Partners in sport

Several non-bank lenders have been active in the sporting space and remain partners of major sporting teams.

Last year, Pepper Money became the major sponsor of the Sydney-based rugby league club Wests Tigers, in what was described as the largest deal in the club’s history.

And in March, self-employed lending specialist RedZed has also extended its partnership with Melbourne Storm, an agreement that will make the lender the longest-serving major partner in the club’s history.
