“I am really excited by this opportunity," said the 43-year-old former back-rower. "After a long sports career, it will be great to have regular contact with clients, helping them to create their dreams of tomorrow.”

The new role will see Mr Menzies service businesses, first home buyers and experienced investors.

Bell Partners noted Mr Menzies's rugby history: “At both club and representative level, Menzies scored at the incredible rate of a try for every 2.05 games he played.” The finance company added that conversion rates were a “big part” of working as a broker.

Mark Stevenson, managing director at Bell Partners, commented that Mr Menzies would bring a level of consistency and work ethic exclusive to elite sportspeople.

“Steve has a certain aura about him, a professional attitude that will see him achieve some great things as a broker,” Mr Stevenson said.

“He will soon be a qualified, accredited and trained broker, but for now business development will be his role, being at the forefront of client enquiries.”
