Regional broker helps borrowers that lenders won’t

One broker has put compassion at the forefront of his service by offering help to those struggling to secure finance.

Roger Ward, director of Cairns Mortgage Brokers, said his personal passion for assisting people in the community who are underrepresented led to the launch of his financial recovery program for people declined by lenders.

“Many times these clients are women who have been knocked back from getting a loan because of a past financially destructive relationship, or sometimes it could be a complicated case involving war veterans and firefighters where their job has triggered difficult mental and financial outcomes,” he said.

Mr Ward said the program has been a great success, both for his brokerage and the wider community.

“For example, we had a woman who the banks declined from getting a loan but wouldn’t tell her why," he said. "When I discovered it was from an unpaid default by her ex-husband, I put together a case and wrote to the lenders involved.

“I recommended they remove the defaults, and sure enough – they did! She’s now been able to secure a home for herself and her children.”

Mr Ward added that the program has helped several complicated cases involving returning servicemen who were declined credit due to issues triggered by their service to the country.

“I believe that just because we are a regional community doesn’t mean locals shouldn’t have access to the best service, products and services that are available in the Australian market,” he said.
