Wage rises fail to keep up with mortgage costs

Full-time adult total earnings increased by 0.6 per cent in the three months to November 2007, ABS figures released today show.

Weekly full-time total adult earnings now sit at $1,159.10, seasonally adjusted – 4.8 per cent more than in November 2006.

With the average cost of mortgage repayments increasing by 3.6 per cent in just the last quarter, the rise in wages show little chance of easing the increasing burden of mortgage repayments.
