CPI rises in December quarter

The Consumer Price Index (CPI) rose 0.9 per cent in the December quarter 2007, ABS data revealed today.

This compares with the 0.7 per cent rise in the September quarter. Through the year to the December quarter 2007 the CPI rose by 3.0 per cent.

Housing was a significant contributor to the increase, with rents and house purchases rising by 1.6 and 1.3 per cent respectively in the December quarter.
