The federal government’s stimulus payments appear to be filtering through to the retail sector with turnover rising significantly.

Retail turnover rose 2.2 per cent in March from February, the ABS said yesterday.

Department stores in particular benefitted with a 13.2 per cent rise in turnover; clothing and soft good retailing and food retailing also performed well.

On a state basis, Queenslanders were spending the most with a turnover increase of 3.2 per cent.
