The Finance Brokers Association of Australia has announced a new chairman of the board.
Brett Spencer has been appointed as the new chairman of the board of the Finance Brokers Association of Australia (FBAA), taking over the position held by Tony Carter for the past eight years.
Spencer – who has been on the FBAA board since 2023 – is the CEO of fintech company DocuScan and has worked in the finance industry for more than 20 years, with a strong focus on mortgages and lending.
Speaking at the FBAA National Industry Conference 2025 in the Gold Coast on Friday (31 October), Spencer said the outgoing chair had led the organisation through “perhaps the toughest climate in our entire history, being COVID” and helped drive broker membership.
“On behalf of all our staff, our partners, our sponsors and our brokers, thank you,” he said.
He continued: “It’s a great honour to take on the role as chair of the FBAA and I thank my fellow board members for their confidence...
“The FBAA board is not about one person but about the collective, and our focus is firmly on our members. This will not change.”
Peter White AM, managing director of the FBAA, stated: “Congratulations to Brett for taking over as chairman and thank you to Tony Carter… for looking after us and guiding the board.”
“Brett has been a valued member of the board for the past two years and the transition will be seamless. I look forward to working closely with Brett as we continue to serve members and advance our industry.
White stated: “I’d also like to extend my sincere thanks to Tony Carter who was chair during a time of great growth and expansion at the FBAA.
“Tony remains on the board for another year and will still make an enormous and valuable contribution to our direction during this time.”
As well as announcing a new chair, the FBAA also welcomed its new elected director, Justin Delanty.
Delanty – who had been volunteering as the association’s first state president for Tasmania – has been named as an elected director for a three-year term.
