Kaplan Professional has extended its services by offering training and education for brokers looking to break into the SMSF lending space.

On offer are a series of online courses aimed to teach brokers about the components of SMSF lending and how this new revenue stream can add value to their business.

“We have an entry-level course which is about understanding the basic competencies, the basic components and elements of SMSF lending. It’s designed for people who don’t know anything about SMSF,” Kaplan Professional CEO Brian Knight told The Adviser.

“What’s important is that from that course, brokers can progress to a course that is RG146 compliant, so if they want to get competencies in it, they can get those.

“Then we have an advanced SMSF course which is really practical in understanding all the concepts and strategies involved in SMSF.”

Mr Knight said that the courses are designed to take approximately 12 weeks to complete, with users given the option to work at their own pace.

“They have media resources in them so people can watch recorded interviews and webinars, and they also have support resources in them,” he added.

Each course ranges from $300 to $580, with brokers encouraged to start at a course level they feel comfortable at.

“We can assist brokers in which courses they should do,” Mr Knight said.

Mr Knight expects the SMSF lending space to grow over the next couple of years.

“It will continue to grow and expand. That’s why it’s important that people are property educated, whatever their role in it,” he said.

“There’s a lot of emphasis on SMSF lending and it needs to be on it. We’re very keen to support it.”
