Unemployment fell to an unexpected 4.2 per cent in June, from 4.3 per cent in May, as 24,000 more full time jobs were made, figures from the ABS revealed today.

Total employment rose by 29,800 to 10.716 million over the month, seasonally adjusted, which was significantly more than the 10,000 forecast by economists.

At 4.2 per cent, the unemployment rate still remains close to the 33-year low of 3.9 per cent recorded in February this year.
