Victorian-based credit union mecu today announced plans to merge with Queensland’s Uni Credit Union (UCU) in a bid to minimise operating costs and drive greater efficiencies.
If approved, the merger would see the UCU business transfer to mecu to create a $1.7 billion credit union with 17 branches and 230 staff.
Peter Crocker, mecu chairman, said together the credit unions would be “in a stronger position to keep operating costs down, deliver greater efficiencies and improved services for members – as well as providing growth opportunities.”
