Two new ACCC commissioners appointed

Ms Brakey has over 25 years of experience in regulatory economics and public policy, including more than 21 years with the New South Wales Independent Pricing and Regulatory Tribunal, where she held positions as a deputy Tribunal Member, the Executive Director of Strategy and Economic Analysis and the Chief Operating Officer.

She has worked at various other public agencies, including the Productivity Commission and the NSW Department of Transport. 

She has been a consultant economist with Frontier Economics for the past year.

Mr Crone has 30 years of experience advising on economics, public policy and regulation.

As well as being a former chief economist with Ernst and Young, the Coles Group and the Business Council of Australia, Mr Crone also served as principal adviser to Treasurer Josh Frydenberg between 2018-2019.

He was also a senior economic adviser to the Prime Minister from 1997 to 2006 and spent seven years at Commonwealth Treasury as a policy adviser and research economist.

He is a member of the ASX Corporate Governance Council.

Speaking of the appointments, Mr Frydenberg said: “The appointments of Ms Brakey and Mr Crone will further strengthen the ACCC’s capacity to promote competition and fair trade in markets for the benefit of consumers, small businesses and the community.”

ACCC chair Rod Sims added: “We are very pleased to welcome Anna and Peter, who both have impressive economic and commercial credentials and who have made significant contributions in their fields.

“Their appointments will further deepen and broaden the expertise and experience of our team.”
