A Loan Market broker has made the call for female brokers to enter the industry, and cash in growth trends.
In light of International Women’s Day, and the “opportunity” provided by new best interests duty legislation, Sarah Thomson, senior lending manager of Loan Market Geelong stated that now is the time for women to enter the broker industry.
“As brokers’ value offering and commitment to clients’ best interests [gain] more profile in the marketplace, more people will be entrusting brokers to be their trusted adviser across their financial needs,” Ms Thomson said.
“Whether it’s the legal profession, IT or broking, I think it’s really important for any industry to have a healthy mix of women and men to service the marketplace.
“I honestly don’t think there is no better place to grow your career as a woman than in broking.”
The call comes after the Mortgage and Finance Association of Australia (MFAA) reported a decline in female brokers last year, with the number of women in the industry trending downwards.
Ms Thompson called on any woman considering a move into the industry, mentioning support networks available, including Loan Market’s Leading Ladies group.
“[It’s] a great community to be a part of when you are new to the industry or transitioning your business to the next level,” Ms Thompson said.
“If women are thinking about broking as a career, they can be assured that there’s support out there.”
Loan Market’s executive director, Andrea McNaughton stated that the network’s Leading Ladies community is “an integral part of the culture” at the company, noting the organisation’s retreats and networking events in support of women.
“Leading Ladies celebrates the contributions of top performers like Sarah, right through to women who are only starting out their careers,” said McNaughton.
“International Women’s Day is a reminder that there are support networks like Leading Ladies in our industry which [enable] women to take their careers to the next level.”
