Ping pong unites industry

More than 30 people from 25 organisations, including The Adviser’s own Jordan Coleman, came together to participate in the inaugural Mortgage Leaders Ping Pong Championship earlier this month.

Launched by mortgage lead generator Wealthify, the competition saw representatives from brokerages, aggregators, lenders, industry bodies, insurance providers and trade press come together to compete in the six-week tournament.

The competition culminated in a grand final event that was held in Sydney earlier this month.

The Adviser’s senior partnerships manager, Jordan Coleman, took place in the sudden death preliminary final, facing off against Freedom Insurance’s BDM, Ian Witteridge.

Other members of the industry who went head-to-head in the final competition included Capileo’s Vik Pitre; Australian Mortgage Planners’ Stephen Dinte (representing the IFBF); You’re Welcome Finance’s director and senior mortgage and finance consultant, Chris Straw; uno’s mortgage solutions consultant, Bronson Chan; and Outsource Financial’s senior manager of commercial finance, Brian Ho.

Mr Witteridge then went on to win the final and the top prize of a holiday to Bali.

The tournament was launched by Wealthify to “lighten the mood” at time of “unparalleled regulatory and market change”.

Wealthify CEO Darren Moffatt said that the finals, held at a special event at the Metropolitan Hotel rooftop in Sydney, was a “huge success” and often saw competitors pitted against each other in a friendly way.

Mr Moffatt said: “Wealthify were surprised and humbled by support from the industry, which has been overwhelming; we’ve had more than 12,000 views of our videos (organic/unpaid) on social media.

“It has also been great for educating brokers on the online channel and challenges they face with mortgage lead generation and digital disruption.

“It was a lot of fun and an excellent networking event and the standard of play in the finals was amazing.”

Wealthify said that it extends congratulations to the winner, Ian Witteridge of Freedom Insurance, who won the Bali holiday, and that it is looking forward to hosting the event next year.
