The cream of South Australia’s third-party mortgage industry turned out last night at a glittering event to honour the hard work of brokers in that state.

It was Adelaide’s turn to host its stage of the multi-state Better Business Awards and the city did it in style at a gala awards ceremony held at the Adelaide Hilton.

With 12 awards presented over the course of the evening, Wendy Higgins took the top gong when she was awarded South Australia’s Broker of the Year for 2014. Ms Higgins, from Mortgage Choice’s Glenelg East office, won the title for her hard work, significant loan book and customer service.

In fact, it was a good night all round for Ms Higgins and her team from the Glenelg East office. Ms Higgins also took out the Best Residential Broker award, the office’s Keith Cane won the Rising Star award, and the entire team revelled in their Best Branded Office trophy too.

Another big winner last night was Rise High Financial Solutions. The Prospect-based brokerage won the coveted Best New Office category, while company director, James Schulze, was awarded Best Newcomer.

Speaking at the Adelaide event, The Adviser's publisher, Jim Hall, said the Better Business Awards were all about recognising brokers at a local level. “Too often the industry is confined to the bigger states,” Mr Hall said, “and it’s important to recognise the great work brokers are doing here in South Australia and in the smaller states.

“It’s these businesses that connect with their communities, build referral relationships, boost their brand and work hard on client loyalty that constantly stand out as the industry’s top performers – and it’s these success stories and their hard work that the Better Business Awards acknowledges.”

The South Australian event was the third on the Better Business roadshow, which also includes the Better Business Conference during the day. With Victoria, NSW and now South Australia completed, it’s the turn of Queensland (March 12) and then Western Australia (March 20). Tickets are still available for both events and can be purchased by clicking here.
