FHB frenzy on horizon as grant deadline nears

Staff Reporter 1 minute read

Brokers could see a “frenzy” of first home buyer activity in the next two months as the deadline for the increased first home buyer grant looms nearer.

New research released by Datamonitor shows that for 78 per cent of prospective first home buyers the increased grant is “quite” or “very” important in terms of their purchase decision.

“We may have a frenzy of first time buyer activity in the upcoming two months as the augmented grant deadline approaches,” Datamonitor senior analyst Peter Ingemarsson said.

Mr Ingemarsson also commented that there was still a chance the grant would be extended due to the strong incentive it had constituted for prospective home owners.

“Although the government has rebuffed suggestions for an extension to the boosted first home owner grant, there is still a possibility they will reverse their position due to public demand.”
