Brits a lot more chipper

Staff Reporter 1 minute read

Consumer confidence in the UK has climbed to its highest point in a year raising hopes that the worst of the crisis may have passed.

Research agency Gfk NOP’s consumer confidence index, carried out on behalf of the European commission, rose three points in April to -27 points.

“It’s largely driven by the public’s perception that the next 12 months will be better for both our own personal finances and particularly for the economy in general,” Rachel Joy, an analyst at GfK said on the result.

The improvement in the outlook of UK residents coincides with an improvement in US consumer confidence revealed earlier this week; US consumer confidence rose by more than 10 points in April to its highest point in 2009.
