An extension of the increased first home owner grant could spur further business for brokers with an industry survey revealing strong borrower support for its extension.

According to an online poll conducted by Loan Market Group which attracted 700 respondents, 91 per cent of people would like to see the grant extended.

39 per cent of those respondents said they would like the grant to be available past June 30 because they wanted to purchase property later in the year while 28 per cent said they were still looking for the right property.

A further 24 per cent said it had simply been good for the housing market.

Just 9 per cent said the government had spent enough and the grant should end come the new financial year.
