The aggressive recruitment strategies employed by aggregators in 2012 are set to continue, according to one industry stakeholder.

Ballast’s CEO, Frank Paratore, told The Adviser that in 2012 many of the larger aggregation groups were seeking to attract the same brokers – a trend he expects to continue into 2013.

“Competition in the aggregation space was intense last year,” Mr Paratore said. “Lots of the groups were after the same top performing brokers and things really heated up.”

Mr Paratore said that with the big getting bigger, smaller aggregators would have to target different types of brokers to survive.

“We don’t tend to target the same types of brokers. We need to offer something different and cater to different brokers.”

Mr Paratore said he expected many of the major aggregators to continue their recruitment drives into 2013.
