Business ‘playbook’ released for new brokers

A free, 100-day action plan has been released by a national aggregator to help new brokers set up and develop their businesses.

National Mortgage Brokers (nMB), a wholly-owned subsidiary of Aussie Home Loans, has created a "Mortgage Broker Playbook" to help brokers adopt a “systematic approach” to the first 100 days of their broking business.

The free download (available from nMB's website) covers marketing, sales and business management and is broken up into three 30-day periods to action. The final 10 days are set aside for review and forward planning.

Each chapter provides brokers with a ‘to do’ list, as well as checklists, tips and advice from both new brokers and experienced loan writers.

According to nMB, the “vital key” to becoming a successful broker is to adopt a systematic approach to the first 100 days of their new business or career.

“The actions taken in this early period have far reaching consequences and are a strong predictor of future success,” said Gerald Foley, nMB’s managing director.

“At nMB, we believe the success rates for new brokers can be attributed in part to educating brokers of the need to balance their time evenly between marketing, sales and business management.”

Mr Foley said that the playbook is also relevant to existing brokers who are looking to reinvigorate their businesses.

He said: “It is often worthwhile for even the most experienced broker to take 100 days to seek new markets, upgrade their skills or diversify into new products.”
