AFG appoints leader for new referral program

by Charlotte Humphrys10 minute read

The inaugural leader of the ASX-listed aggregator’s in-house referral program, AFG Partner Connect, has been appointed.

Australian Finance Group (AFG) has promoted Ross McDougall, its long-serving partnership manager, as the inaugural growth manager of the AFG Partner Connect program.

The AFG Partner Connect program – which was launched last month – aims to combine AFG’s spot and refer programs to enable AFG residential brokers to access specialist advice (for example, asset or commercial finance, insurance, or financial advice) from fellow members aggregating under the group.

The new in-house referral project will be led by McDougall, who joined AFG 11 years ago as its partnership manager in Queensland and had been responsible for sourcing and introducing mortgage brokers to the aggregation group.

Prior to his time at AFG, he was the senior sales executive of retail share trading provider CMC Markets ANZ.

McDougall was promoted into his new position as growth manager of AFG Partner Connect this month. He reports to Them Lam, head of sales and distribution at AFG.

Commenting on McDougall’s appointment, Lam said: “Partner Connect is a significant value-add opportunity for AFG brokers. It is only fitting therefore that we appointed a high-calibre leader to take this project forward.

“Given Ross’s extensive experience in and knowledge of the mortgage broking industry, it was clear he was the perfect candidate for this important role.”

McDougall said that he was looking forward to supporting brokers to grow their business and providing them with access to a range of “expertise and solutions beyond the residential mortgage sector”.

He continued: “There are huge opportunities for brokers to expand beyond the residential mortgage market and build more valuable businesses.

“Our brokers recognise that their clients’ financial needs extend beyond residential home loans.

“Those customers are looking to their broker as a trusted adviser to fulfil these needs, and Partner Connect allows them to do this.”

AFG Partner Connect’s three foundation partners so far include Marketplace Finance for commercial finance, AIA Financial Wellbeing for health and life insurance solutions, and Broli Finance for personal loans and asset finance.
