TAKE SOME time this month to start something that could change a life as part of R U OK? Day, the national day of action that has helped change the conversation about mental health. Held on the second Thursday of September each year (11 September 2025), R U OK? Day aims to remind people to regularly check in with friends, family, and colleagues. Research from the organisation has shown that those who are regularly asked, “Are you OK?” reported greater wellbeing, and a third of Australians said they have been asking others more often over the past year.

This suggested that although many people already reach out in meaningful ways, some still feel uncertain about how to start these conversations. R U OK? Day’s website offers free tools, tips, and resources to help you start a conversation, along with details on upcoming events and activities. “R U OK? Day, our National Day of Action, is a powerful reminder, but it’s what we do regularly that truly makes a difference,” says R U OK? CEO Katherine Newton.

“We want Australians to feel confident to check in with the people they care about – not only on R U OK? Day, but any day.”
