Old computers letting brokers down

by Steven Cross8 minute read

Brokers are missing out on the latest software and technology because their hardware is out of date, according to one technology expert.

Speaking with The Adviser, CEO of Stargate Brett Spencer said too many aggregators and brokers are focusing on software alone.

“Everyone is talking about software and new CRM systems [and] rebuilds, but something that almost everyone is forgetting is that the software can only be as good as the hardware you're using.

“You can't run Windows 8 or the latest cloud CRM to its full capabilities on a desktop computer from the '90s,” Mr Spencer said.

And with technology advancing at an unprecedented rate, the gap will only widen.

“Now we’re seeing 4G networks pick up pace, and the NBN being rolled out. Windows XP will no longer be supported by Microsoft from April and businesses that fall behind are going to be left behind.”

Mr Spencer even suggested that the end of the desktop computer is at hand.

“If you don't have a tablet, or at least a laptop with a cloud computing system or at least plans to move into the cloud, then you may as well shut up shop and get out of the industry.”

Mr Spencer will be leading a discussion on the future of broker technology at the 2014 Better Business Summit. To secure your place at this not-to-be-missed event visit www.betterbusinesssummit.com.au
