Brokers take to the field for charity

by Huntley Mitchell8 minute read

Over 80 brokers and other industry figures have faced off in a five-a-side soccer competition at ANZ Stadium to raise money for a worthy cause.

ANZ and AFG partnered once again for the annual event to support Save Our Sons – a children’s charity formed to help find a cure for Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy.

Over $11,000 was raised on the day by the eight teams made up of representatives from ANZ, AFG, AFG Home Loans, St.George Bank, ING Direct, Macquarie Bank and Citi.

The final was an all-ANZ affair, with the major bank’s second team taking home the trophy with a 2-1 win.

Stephen Doyle, AFG’s state manager for New South Wales and the ACT, said the event was hugely successful and was thoroughly enjoyed by the players and spectators.

“Save Our Sons is an exceptional charity that we’ve been supporting for the last two years, so it was great to have our brokers and lending partners turn out to raise money for such a worthy cause,” he told The Adviser.

Smartmove co-founder and director Simon Orbell was one of the brokers who participated in the event, and highlighted the importance of brokers supporting charities and local community initiatives.

“We all get very busy as brokers, but to be able to give back like this is something all businesses should look at,” he said.
