The middle of June marks the start of Men’s Health Week, an annual reminder to be more mindful of men’s physical and mental health and emotional wellbeing.
Celebrated around the world every year from 9–15 June, Men’s Health Week seeks to highlight ways we can better support the men and boys in our communities.
In Australia, Men’s Health Week is coordinated by the Centre for Male Health at Western Sydney University.
Each year, the organisation provides thought starters and discussion points around what needs to be done to improve male health through promotions, events, and publicity.
During the week, key experts in the men’s health space highlight the challenges men face in prioritising their health and what individuals and the healthcare system can do to address them.
Emma George, associate professor and director of the Centre for Male Health, said the initiative was designed to improve health outcomes for the whole community.
“It’s more important than ever to come together to highlight the importance of men’s health and the profound and positive impact that improving it can have on our whole community,” she said.
