Teachers Mutual Bank opens new head office
Teachers Mutual Bank Limited welcomed more than 50 industry partners and stakeholders to a casual office warming celebration at its new head office at 10 Shelley Street, Sydney. Hosted by chair Andrew Kearnan and CEO Anthony Hughes, the event marked the official opening of the bank’s new premises and the beginning of what leaders described as an exciting new chapter for the organisation.
Board members and the executive team joined guests to celebrate the move into the multi-level office space, formerly occupied by Suncorp Bank. The new headquarters features state-of-the-art facilities, including open-plan workspaces, a large communal kitchen, breakout zones with foosball tables and arcade games, a dedicated relaxation room, and sweeping views across Darling Harbour.
The relocation comes at a significant time for the mutual, ahead of its proposed merger with Australian Mutual Bank. Members are currently voting on the proposal, with a special general meeting scheduled for 12 March to outline the next steps in the merger process.

AI in broking event
On 29 January 2026, aggregators, broker groups, lenders, and broker industry professionals gathered at ACS Harbour City Labs in Barangaroo for The Future of Mortgage Broking: AI-Powered, Secure, and Always-On.
The day – hosted by software provider Effi – focused on practical, real-world AI use cases already being trialled across major broking businesses dealing with compliance, data security, and responsible AI adoption across the mortgage ecosystem.
Through a series of live demonstrations, attendees saw how AI can support the entire broker and borrower life cycle – from 24/7 voice-enabled inquiry and basic applications, to real-time document and fraud checks completed in under a minute.
Partner showcases highlighted AI-driven, compliant file notes, instant lender policy responses, property portfolio tracking apps, and data-led property insights. The event also demonstrated agentic AI automating back-office workflows and monitoring loan books post-settlement with automated repricing alerts.
