Take some time this month to consider how you can support the men and boys in your life on International Men’s Day, on 19 November 2025. This year’s theme, ‘Supporting Men and Boys’, will highlight the challenges they face.

One organisation getting involved is Sydney-based charity Mongrels Men.

Run by Tim Hewson, who spent two decades in the finance industry, Mongrels Men runs regular meet-ups designed to help men connect, communicate, and access support.

Hewson says not enough blokes are focused on their health and wellbeing.

“It’s finding and doing the things consistently that we know are good for us, whether that’s getting enough sleep, eating the right foods, drinking enough water,” Hewson says.

“One of our core pillars for the charity is around movement. There’s a very strong connection between regular movement and exercise and improved mental health.”

This year, Mongrels Men is running a storytelling night on 24 November 2025 about inherited myths and rewriting the stories men have been told.

“We’re losing too many blokes every day that blokes don’t speak up, and they need to get better at it. They need to have local and community-based networks of support,” he adds.

“I got inspired to do something about it, because I’d seen what had been working for me.”
