CAFBA 5v5 Cup

The CAFBA 5v5 Cup – Brokers vs Lenders Basketball Tournament tipped off on Wednesday, 10 December at the King George V Recreation Centre in The Rocks, proving the commercial finance industry can step away from LinkedIn and onto the basketball court.

Featuring three broker teams and three lender teams, the round-robin tournament delivered a fiercely competitive couple of hours, with the lenders narrowly taking the win and earning ultimate bragging rights.

More than just competition, the event championed community, networking, and wellbeing, with the Heartbeat of Football Foundation conducting on-site health checks.

Backed by strong industry partners, the tournament highlighted CAFBA’s ongoing commitment to member wellbeing alongside raising professional standards. Special recognition goes to Peter Nikolaou from Peak Capital for his instrumental role in bringing the event to life.

People First Bank Golf Day swings big for charity

Around 90 golfers hit the greens in Toowoomba in November, raising $53,000 at the annual People First Bank Golf Day.

The 27th annual event aims to turn friendly competition into real community impact and has raised more than $1.22 million to support grassroots charities and community groups since inception.

For the first time in 2025, funds were distributed through the People First Bank Foundation, supporting initiatives that improve wellbeing and opportunity across Australia.

Warren Bretz, Bradley Petrie, Rick Thomas, and Murray Wright from Carpet One were the winners on the day.

People First Bank chief customer officer Maria-Ann Camilleri commented: “The continued success of the golf day comes down to the generosity and enthusiasm of sponsors, players and volunteers.

“They’re the reason this event continues to make a difference.”
