Lifeline has kicked off the 2026 Febfast campaign, urging Australians to go alcohol-free for 28 days to support critical mental health and crisis support services.
The annual challenge, which runs throughout February, encourages participants to abstain from alcohol, while raising funds for Lifeline’s 24/7 crisis support network.
This year’s slogan – “28 Days OFF. A Lifeline ON.” – emphasises how going without alcohol can help keep the organisation’s life-saving services operating, while also offering health and wellbeing benefits to those taking part.
Participants with birthdays, weddings, or events during February can purchase a One-OFF Pass for an official night off the challenge.
Lifeline chair Professor Steve Moylan encouraged everyone to take part in the challenge.
“Lifeline is immensely proud to be the sole beneficiary of Febfast in 2026, and we are encouraging all Australians to take on a small challenge that can make a huge difference – for your health and for those who need Lifeline’s support,” he said.
“When people use alcohol to deal with life stressors and emotional pain, it can exacerbate underlying issues. We also know alcohol impairs judgement and lowers inhibition, which significantly increases the risk of suicide and suicidal thinking.”
