Seven reasons young talent should join the industry

Mortgage broking offers young Australians an exciting career path and the chance to make a great living – so why wouldn’t they want to sign up?

Our industry has a really positive message to sell to young people. But we need to start selling. Here are the seven advantages we should promote:

We are a growing industry

Over the past 15 years, mortgage loans introduced by brokers have grown to 50 per cent. The mortgage industry will continue to grow as people will always be looking for loans and financial services. With life getting busier for most people, there is more demand than ever for brokers to take over the loan process to save them time and money.

We are a changing industry

There has been a general perception about the finance/mortgage broking industry that it was generally older people who organised finance. This is changing as the industry recognises that consumers are becoming more receptive to a younger generation providing them information. Consumer electronics is quite technical and was driven by a lot of older salespeople but now youth are becoming the ‘go-to-people’ for knowledge in a lot of major retailers. Similar changes are now happening in the finance industry.

We offer variety and diversity

Mortgage broking is no longer limited to the housing loan sector but offers opportunities to diversify into leasing, business and personal loans, and various other financial services.

There is plenty of opportunity to meet new people and deal with different personalities every day and not be tied to an office chair, particularly if a mobile service is being offered.

There are also many opportunities in the mortgage broking industry to get involved in associated fields such as sales promotion, marketing, HR, lead generation and IT by working with mortgage brokers to help build their businesses.

We are exciting
No two loans are the same and they aren’t all easy. It forces creativity and thinking outside the box in order to get a loan across the line. It is very satisfying and self-fulfilling when you manage to help someone who has not been able to get finance anywhere else. What is more exciting than helping people achieve their dreams?

We are moving into social and digital media

These days social media and new media are being used more to promote and drive business as people are using mobile devices and the internet to look for information about finance and how they can get it. Young people are more in touch with the benefits of these types of promotional tools so they can use their skills in social media and digital advertising to drive their clientele and build their database, in turn earning more commission.

We offer a real career path and the opportunity to train on the job

Whilst desirable, it is not necessary to have a university degree to get started.

We have mentoring programs run by accredited established brokers to aid those looking to further their career in broking.

Training programs together with award-winning IT programs are in place for those who desire to move forward, together with ample opportunity to attend training days and seminars to mix and learn from others in the industry.

We have opportunity to own your own business

For those wanting to enter a career that offers the opportunity to eventually own their own business or franchise, mortgage broking is one of the few industries where this can be achieved with minimal risk.
